A Tainted Evening (2017)Based on texts by Bertolt Brecht, music by K. Weill, H. Eisler, P. Dessau, R. Wagner-RégenyThe complex relationship between a waitress and the bar owner she works for, who acts as a pimp for her - and with whom she has a fatal love affair – is depicted. Although the two cannot be happy in their relationship, they cannot get away from each other either due to mutual economic respectively emotional dependency. There is a thin line between eroticism and brute force; every single moment has the potential for tenderness, passion and relentless anger. One of the strengths of the production is that the songs, despite their evergreen status, are credibly attributed to the characters. In the reduced setting, the existential situation of the protagonist and her counterpart becomes particularly perceptible.Musically, the evening is supported by accordion and double bass. And the bar is filled with lascivious smoking, suggestive gazing and unrestrained drinking, thus forming an inseparable part of the proceedings.
